Hello everybody... I know we were planning on having daily blogs from both Laurie and us this week, but that was before two little things - first, it hadn't stopped raining all week until today, and second, they charge $10 a day for high speed internet around here! Yes, you read that right, for just $9.95 for 24 contiguous hours (their exact wording), you can have high speed internet! So now we're happily working away via Verizon's old non-high speed connection through my trusty Motorola RAZR... At slightly more than double 56K dialup speeds. AHHH! So don't expect many pictures up until we get home - but expect to be overwhelmed then. I'm already over 900 pictures, and we're not even half way done yet!
But enough of that - let's get back to the rain! Now yes, I know, I'm in the middle of a swamp, but hurricane season is supposed to be almost over, right? The weather here has been typically like this: Cloudy, then some drizzle, then cloudy some more, with just a hint of sun. Then BAM! it just starts to pour buckets! Everyone rushes to the nearest overhang to whip out their trusty ponchos (sold conveniently at every register, of course!) and rush on to the next ride. This typically lasts for 10 or 15 minutes, then goes back to a light drizzle. Then just as you think it's clear, BAM! it hits again for another 5 minutes or so! At this point, it usually returns to the cloudy scenario, and this whole cycle repeats, generally 3 to 5 times a day. And if any of you remember my white ren faire shirt with all of the embroidery on it, well, let's just say it will be a red shirt next year - I was wearing it under my red Captain Hook coat last night at Mickey's Not So Scary but Extremely Expensive and Packed Halloween Party... Okay, that's not the name on the ticket, but it should have been! At least I got my picture with Captain Hook, and Mr. Smee, too!
Today, on the other hand, was absolutely wonderful! A little bit of mist and drizzle early on gave way to SUN! Plus, I got some great pictures of the baby alligator (or crocodile) living in the pond behind our room. And we can honestly say that today's trip to Disney's Animal Kingdom was our best day here, by far. Laurie absolutely LOVED the Kali River Rapids ride (think typical 6-8 person raft ride) and made us go on it 3 times in a row! All we could get from her was "One more time!" every time we got off. Luckily for Jerri, the park was closing at the end of our third straight trip (not even undoing our seat belts between rides), so she got off only slightly soaked... Finally, after 12 years of marriage, I have a water ride buddy in Laurie, and Jerri no longer has to feel guilty about not going on them with me!
Stay tuned, because due to a forced break in our schedule tomorrow morning, we're going to try and get Laurie to recap what she can remember about this trip so far. Promises to be fun, I'm sure!
Oh, and remember that whole "Dolphins are pretty" thing last post from her? Sure enough, the very next day, we took Laurie to the ocean, and we got to see not one, but two separate pods of Dolphins swimming by us in the inlet near Jerri's grandmother's community fishing pier. Maybe she just knew something the rest of us didn't...
